Dr. Shireen Rahimi is an underwater storyteller, marine scientist, National Geographic Explorer, and the founder of Lightpalace Productions.

Shireen weaves together western science and ancient wisdom to inspire action for our oceans and climate.

With her expertise in directing, underwater camera operation, and on-camera presenting, Shireen has traveled across the globe telling emotional, character-driven stories about rapidly changing oceans.

Shireen is currently in production on a YouTube series for the National Geographic x Rolex Perpetual Planet Oceans Expedition, traveling from the tropics to the poles to uncover the mysteries of our oceans. As a National Geographic Video Journalist, she tells ocean stories for the @natgeo account. Her work has reached The Nature Conservancy, COP28 Dubai, Parley for the Oceans, the Jane Goodall Institute, PBS, and film festivals around the world.

A 2024 International SeaKeepers NexGen Awardee and CIMASUB Best Female Filmmaker, Shireen has received four grants from the National Geographic Society. The most recent — a competitive Azimuth-level grant — will fund BLUEPRINT, a hosted docuseries exploring why the ocean is our greatest ally in the fight for a climate-positive future.
